We used to work with our hands. Back then better results were achieved by working harder. The problems we faced were tangible and the solutions quick to test and implement.

Now, as the number of knowledge workers keeps on growing, we work with our brain. Working harder does not necessarily lead to better results. In fact, working harder can be counter-productive. Problems are interconnected and solutions have a long feedback cycle.

The nature of work has changed, but our organizations have not. The governing principles remain unaltered. This is a blog on how to change those principles to match the work we do today.

My name is Sami Honkonen. I’m a Director at Reaktor in Helsinki, Finland. Off work, I sing in a death metal band called Embreach.
